Hi! Ciao! ¡Hola!
Somewhere in between obsessively planning and impulsively booking flights, this blog happened.
When I told people I was heading to Europe for five months, the most common response (right after “Wow! Aren’t you scared?”) was: “Do you have a blog?” Even my health insurance rep asked. What started as a 10-minute call to refill my prescription turned into a 30-minute convo about solo travel, and by the end of it, she had practically talked me into starting this thing.
So, here we are.
I started wish you were here mostly for myself and family to have a place to write things down while they’re still fresh. But also for people like me: who want to find good gluten-free meals without spending hours Googling, who want to take a day trip that’s not a tourist trap, who want to get a good workout in to stay mentally sane, and who want to spend smart but still feel somewhat boujee. (Grandma, I know you love the word “boujee”).
So why did I name it “wish you were here”? This was just something I kept texting to family and friends. It felt right and it sounded good. That’s really all it took.
Brain Dumps, But Make It Useful
Just my experience and stuff I tried, liked, or hated. Expect quick updates, little moments, and maybe a photo or two.
- Where I’m at and what I’m up to
For anyone trying to keep up (hi, Mom), this is where I’ll share my recent adventures, “phone eats first” pictures, and any juicy stories (like the plumbing fiasco in our last apartment).
- Gluten-free food that doesn’t suck
I’m sadly gluten-free by necessity, not by trend. If I find something my tastebuds like, you’ll hear about it. Because truly good gluten-free finds are rare, and when I stumble on one, I have to tell someone.
- Coffee shops worth working from
Working at a coffee shop with an iced lattes is a hobby at this point. My favorite part of traveling is finding THE coffee shop to work from in the city I’m in. Bonus points for lots of seating and outlets.
- Finding my “Soldicore” replacement
I love to stay in the habit of working out when traveling, but I’m not about $40 fitness classes or going to scary gyms surrounded by creepy old men. To help traveling girls like me, I’ll want to share the gyms that feel good, are worth it, and won’t make you uncomfortable.
- Budget-ish travel
I don’t want to spend a fortune, but I do want to feel like I’m enjoying myself. I’ll share the moments where I splurged, where I saved, and how I managed to stay within budget.
Final Thoughts
To be honest, I have no game plan for this blog. I have no idea how this will go, if anyone will read it, or if it’ll just turn into a really well-organized diary. But either way, it feels right to start.
Ciao for now!
